Designs inspired by the traditional art of the Gond tribes of India
Patterns that form the basis for the design application of Gond art
These designs are a result of my search for design that conveys a sense of place. The search led me to study Gonds, the largest and oldest tribal community in India who have a distinct vernacular art form deeply grounded in their ecology and mythology. The art represents the people and their place.
What are the characteristics of this art form that enables it to represent a place? Can those qualities be identified, extracted, and applied as graphic design? And will that design represent the place? Will it retain the soul even when removed from its context?
Read about where the search for these answers took me.
